being happy is constant maintenance

i thought happiness would be the exact opposite. something that could not be hindered or helped, something that would stand there, even if you did not know it was right next to you. even an obscure recognition, and it would dissipate like so much stale smoke, but i am just hypothesizing. happiness to me must include a no-thinking stipulation, or i would ponder myself right into some miserable corner. i thought the same rule applied to everybody

what is the point of happiness if not to realize that you are happy?

maybe i'm just too american - i think that you have to work at what you want. the happiness that you are describing seems like almost a fairy tale, effortless and breezy. but life, so far, doesn't seem like that. it's complicated, full of ups and downs, and happiness would have to take that into account. you can't float on a cloud forever, but that doesn't mean you can't be happy where you are.

so, part of happiness for me is being conscious of it.
